Varastraa isn’t about being just a brand; Ours is a story, a story about Indian artists, their lives, their pride, and the incredibly beautiful art they create!

At the start of this journey, Our purpose was clear, we wished to revive traditional Indian art forms that were absolutely beautiful, yet fading away in the mad rush of modernization. Some, even at risk of being lost forever. These, needed to be applied to a variety of handwoven fabrics, often, not the ones used conventionally.

We were on to something meaningful, significant, and absolutely worth the time and effort it would take.

Next, we needed a name that was unique, never used before, and one which embodied the very spirit of what we were about to embark upon. What better inspiration than to fall back on the mother of all languages. Sanskrit!

“Vara” means “Beautiful” in Sanskrit, and “Vastra” means “Garment”. Together these words form Varastraa , which represents “A Beautiful Garment.”

Varastraa – took form as recently as January 2018, but in many ways is an “old soul” as the “genetic code of purpose” is firmly rooted in ancient and traditional artforms from across India.

Varastraa was founded by Seema Haydon whose early childhood memories are filled by the beautiful sarees her mother wore with great pride and joy. They were a very important part of her persona, and the sentiment that a saree defines a person, was deeply ingrained forever.

She is a professional fashion designer currently focussed on reviving traditional art forms from across India.

At Varastraa, we collaborate with weavers, craftsmen, and textiles artists from all over India to blend designs, textures, and surface embroideries, with exquisite craftsmanship that result in unique creations to cherish.

It all begins with the fabric we use. “Hand Woven” is a founding principle across our range. We work on a variety of fabrics such as, Matka silk, Linen, Kanjeevaram, Muslin, Tussar, Kota Doria, etc.
